| Trying something different O.k. here is the story. On my 55 gal. I had A Current; Nova extreme Ho and a Coralife LO fixture for my lighting. I had the HO fixture toward the front and the LO toward the back. Unknown to me (lack of proper research, spur of the moment LFS purchase) the LO is more of a throw away cheap fixture. Anyway, the ballast went after 1 yr. and 8 mos.
When shopping for another fixture, I was considering another HO like I have but....when the LO went, I saw that it wasn't really doing all that much and the HO pretty well lit the whole tank rather nicely for my purposes (soft coral tank). I then became concerned at the tremendous amount of light 2 HO units would provide (no algae and I want to keep it that way!)
When figuring out options with the owner of a LFS I trust and do most of my business with, he came up with trying 2 Current Power Brite strips. They have four LEDs in each one and you connect them in tandem. WOW! I am impressed! You get the shimmering as if you have Halides but no heat and only 4 watts per strip. He said if I didn't like them to bring them back...I won't be doing that! I have been experimenting with tilting them to hit different angles and the placing options are extensive.
Thought I would share my experiment in lighting with you. Good aquarium keeping to one and all!

| Re: Trying something different Ok, I am impressed. Can you tell me where I might find them online so I can see what they are like. I am assuming since you have a 55 you used a 48" light? I am really a dumbert when it comes to lighting so I need all the help I can get and I don't want halide.
For clarification, You still have one HO and you added the new lights to it??

| Re: Trying something different So you are using the LEDS as a form of lighting? Not sure what you mean by LOW OUTPUT? What type of bulbs, PC? Or are they Corallifes T5s? |

Frag, the LO were T5. I think you asked before. There are T5 LO bulbs. I used The Power brights to replace the LOs.
