New 5-gallon tank! Well, so I just bought a 5-gallon tank to replace my 2-gallon.
I currently have two very small goldfish (common, "feeder" goldfish) and one extremely small Zebra Danio.
I bought three plastic plants, a blue coral-like thing, and some type of white rock that looks like coral (the employees at the store said it was safe for a freshwater tank) and some white gravel.
I really like salt-water tanks but don't think I could maintain one well enough, so instead, I'm trying to recreate the salt-water look in a freshwater tank... basically just added lots of color, and am searching for a salt-water background to tape to the tank.
Anyway, do you think I could add two more Zebra Danios, or maybe just one? I feel as if he's lonely in my tank, since I read that these are schooling fish. Would it be too much for my tank?
If it is, lets say that I just keep these three fish and add a Ghost Shrimp. Would that be a sustainable community? Or maybe an Apple Snail, if the shrimp is too much.
Anndd, one more thing. I attached a thermometer to the outside of the tank, and it says that the water is 82 degrees! I don't understand why it's so hot. I've done everything I can to try to cool it off; removed the top, turned off the light, added ice cubes. It's not in direct sunlight either.
I really want to get my three fish out of the 2-gallon tank ASAP, but I'm going to wait at least 24 hours for the first tank to cycle.
But how can I cool it off? |
