I know you have kept oscars before and was wondering how you tell when an adult fish has pop eye and when its just how it is?
I love personality fish too, but for me its a murray cod!
Just a update on the pop eye. I just decided to treat with melafix. It is working , today was the second full day of treatment and I can all ready see a improvement. I will take some pics of it in a few days. both eyes are still protruding but have receded approx. 1/4 of the way back in , maybe a little bit less. I plan on treating it for the seven days, do a big water change, take two days off, then resume a second week of treatment.

They also have hole in the head disease, none of my oscars ever had it in the past, so i cant tell if they are old scars or active HITH pits. Anybody know if they had moderate hole in the head in the past will they keep a open pit or does it close up ? I will assume they are active ones and do extra water changes and might keep a low half dose of melafix in the water to prevent any secondary infections. I guess if they dont get worse or improve then they were old ones, if they get worse then i will have to get some maracyn 2 and treat them as best I can. I really dont want to have to dose a 135 gallon tank for a extended time, very expensive and from what i heard not likely to cure it long term. I just dont want to euthenize them if they are still able to function normally etc.. I guess that will be something to consider down the road when the fish is suffering etc..

Cool thanks for the update, good to know that melafix works.
I don't reckon they would be suffering the the holes they have now. Hopefully they are old ones. I'm sure even the improved water quality will help with the holes if they are active.
I thought I had hole in the head once with my discus, turns out I was abit senstive, I mean I had read everywhere about this disease and discus, so I can't help you much with treatment.
Good luck with everything!

They were not seperated from each other, they were both on one side of the divider (2 foot area) , on the other side of the divider the idiot had a adult flowerhorn that liked to escape the divider and tear up the poor O's.
