| Freshwater Refugium??? i may be just dreaming here, but does anyone think that a freshwater refugium would be beneficial. I do not really see much difference between fresh and salt other than i have never seen a fresh refuge. As i understand plants will improve water quality no matter what kind of water it is. So why couldn't you use a refugium in fresh water just as you would in salt, and just get the right type of plants. I have never really had a planted freshwater tank so i may just be missing something obvious as to why it has never been done.

| Re: Freshwater Refugium??? I definately couldn't be a bad thing. Sure the plants would help, it would also give you a few extra gallons, a place for hurt fish, agressive fish, and they are also very attractive.!!

| Re: Freshwater Refugium??? There are a few kinds, 1. A refugium in the sump is simply a section of open space in the sump.
2. In in-tank refugium is basically a glass box w/ suction cups to attach it to the wall. A powerhead is attached to keep the water circulating.
3. HOB fuge. Think of it as a HOB filter that is clear and has no filtration stuff in there. Also deeper. Just look @ this one... http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...fm?pcatid=3618

| Re: Freshwater Refugium??? Often I have had this same thought. I've considered doing one for snails so I can feed them to my loaches.

| Re: Freshwater Refugium??? Botia loaches (clowns, polka-dot, yo-yo, zebras, etc.) will generally eat snails. Dojo, Kuhli and other serpentine loaches do not.
