I am a new poster with a change in setup from a 60 to a 100 gallon. I swapped everything over last weekend using most of the old water and all the old gravel.

It has three medium oscars, One medium parrot, one bottom cleaner and 6 barbs. It has a large castle and plastic plants that have been used before. It has a ehiem filter that has a spray bar pointing at the water that makes many small bubbles, I feed twice a day.

My fish are gupling a lot and mouthing the surface. My bottom feeder swam to the top to gulp air.

I had adjusted the spray bar where it would not make as many bubbles as there appeared to be an excess of bubbles and added some more water yesterday making the water level right at the bottom of the spray bar and on top of that the spray bar dropped down lower so there were very few bubbles being produced. I adjusted the spray bar to make more bubbles and the fish are acting better now.

Did you test your water quality? High levels of either, or both NitrIte or Ammonia could cause the symptoms you describe.

It sounds like your tank's not cycled.

You make no mention of moving over the filter from the 60G. Is this the same filter, and media from the 60 on the 100?

Lastly, you absolutely need to test your water with a good quality liquid test kit.

At a minimum, you want NitrItes to be 0<1 and Ammonia to be 0<2~3 ppm.

For the sake of your fish right now you should do a large water change immediately after testing, or if you don't have a test kit then don't wait, do a large WC.........

I definitely agree that your oxygen levels were probably low. I have a similar sized tank and know that it is sometimes hard to create enough water movement at the surface, which is key to promoting gas exchange (O2 in, CO2 out), but found that a spray bar is one of the best options. The idea here is NOT to create bubbles since those bubbles are not really adding much, if any dissolved oxygen to the water but instead, it is the action they cause at the water's surface as they escape that is helping your fish...so in reality, you can skip the bubbles entirely and just use the spray bar to make ripples.

Depending on how you went about doing things and to some degree, how long it took you, you should have cloned your new tank off the old one and may skip much of the cycling process. Although you wouldn't really know that without the aid of a test kit as already mentioned.
