| Re: Fish are gulping real fast I definitely agree that your oxygen levels were probably low. I have a similar sized tank and know that it is sometimes hard to create enough water movement at the surface, which is key to promoting gas exchange (O2 in, CO2 out), but found that a spray bar is one of the best options. The idea here is NOT to create bubbles since those bubbles are not really adding much, if any dissolved oxygen to the water but instead, it is the action they cause at the water's surface as they escape that is helping your fish...so in reality, you can skip the bubbles entirely and just use the spray bar to make ripples.
Depending on how you went about doing things and to some degree, how long it took you, you should have cloned your new tank off the old one and may skip much of the cycling process. Although you wouldn't really know that without the aid of a test kit as already mentioned. |
