| I would invest in a basking light they really do need them and really enjoy them they are very inexpensive and you can get them at wal-mart or anywhere like that , just make sure you get a reptile bulb I paid about six bucks for mine at petsmart. Thanks for the info on pic-post I`ll try this tomorrow and see if I can get some pics on here. If you have anymore questions on turtles I`ll be glad to give you my little knowledge on this subject. And if I don`t know the answer I will help you research it. Thanks again for the pic/post info!

| Hey plecox2 if you pay more than about $15 you`r paying way too much. Hey let me let you in on a secret that works sometimes it depends on the turtles. If you take them out of the regular tank for their feedings and bathroom which is about the same time it will keep your tank much cleaner. I use a gallon bucket and use enough water to cover the turtles and feed them as much as they can eat in 5min and then leave them in for about 30min after for bathroom. It doesn`t work for all turtles because they freak out when messed with and only want to be fed in regular tank.

| No way you could keep any sea turtles. Big felony to own or possess. They also grow much too large for any aquarium or pond. However, the diamondback terrapin (Malaclemys) is native to coastal marshes from the Gulf Coast to New England, and they get to about eight inches as adults. I don't keep water turtles any more. They caused havoc in the pond and tank keeping is just too much trouble. I do keep tortoises. Atlas the red footed tortoise has been my buddy for twenty-four years; and is going strong. Agate is a leopord tortoise and is a more recent addition, only about a year. I'll probably have to write them into my will. |

| Re: anyone like turtles? I have 2 red eared sliders. They are both about 4 inches in shell diameter, and they are great. Super fun to watch and very active. That being said they are super messy and having a reptile light on for 1/2 the day make algea impossible to manage. I do a 25% water change once a week and gravel vac, and do a full 100% water change/tank cleaning once a month and their aquarium is still disgusting. I have them in a 25 gallon tank about 3/4 full and a filter made to clean a 55 gallon. In conclusion red eared sliders are great pets, but require tons of attention. |

| Re: anyone like turtles? I had a wild turtle I found in my backyard at my old place. We had it in a cleaned out plastic barrel cut in half. Surprisingly enough, he only ate lettuce and tomatoes. Long story short, the barrel got knocked in a freak windstorm while we we out for the day and I never sew him again.
BTW, does anyone here live in New Jersey? I'm pretty sure I can't buy them here, but is it illegal to keep them as pets?
