| !$^&^*- (bleep) L/F/S !!!!! I was just wondering if any of you have any thing that just makes you mad as S _ _ _ about your local fish store. For example one near me I have purchased 100s of $ from them and they have never ever asked if I needed any help or questions on anything. And get this they have signs up saying "please limit questions to our employees so they can run the store and not stand around and talk all day thanks." I try to limit my trips to this store ,but they do have the rarest fish around here . So lets here your gripes people.

| Well, When BIG chain store took over the pet industry it killed all the local Mom and Pop Pet/Aquatic Shops. Once the Chain stores ran the Locals out, we lost people who Knew what they were doing, cared about what they were doing and gave great advise because thats how they made a living.
The big chain stores staff with UNDERPAID and in most cased UNTRAINED employee's. THIS IS WHAT THE WORLD CALLS PROGRESS! HA!
Try and find a small local owened and operated store or buy online from trusted companies, thats all I can think of.
Later, Pop's

How true. I have a really good relationship with the LFS. As Pops mentioned they are one of the few locally owned operations left. They have several stores (a chain actually) but they tend to behave like the original store. They are excellent in most every way. They offer advice freely, demonstrate products, discourage the purchase of some items, etc. They have a club for $3 you get $3 off each month for 1 year. If you get a fish most months they give you the allowing years club dues. It is a nice savings and loyalty plan. They do charge a bit more due to the specialty nature of the store but that is understandable. They also spend a lot of time keeping the tanks good. They remove the occasional dead fish etc. promptly. Many of the chains seem to leave dead fish in the tank for a while which causes further problems etc.

| my LFS has good emplyees and bad employees. When i see a certain someone is working instead of the one I call "the fish guy" I turn right around and plan on coming back later. This so called employee was complaining to some freinds of ut how they hate it when customers put their hands in the feeder fish tank and feed the other fish..then turned right about and let her freind do it because she said said" I know you." I should have reported it to her manager but I wasn't feeling really complainy that day |

| I have a fish store less than 2 blocks from my house, convienent right? nope, not really...I have really hard water the is super resistant to ph change and it comes out of the tap with an extremely high ph, I haven't found a test that goes as high as my ph tests....anyway I go to the store next door and inquire about distilled water for my water changes...the guy asks why do you want water? I told him why...he then tells me that my super high ph does not matter!!!!! that he never checks his ph and then tried to sell me a huge jar of some powered ph down stuff....it converts alkalinity into co2....hmm...I have no living plants in the tank I wanted the water for and the guy new this...why would I want to load my tank with co2?
I had another problem with them when the heater I purchased two weeks before stopped working...the thermostat had went out and by the time I noticed my tank water was pushing 90 degrees.....luckily I only lost one fish....my betta ....I took the heater back to the store and complained...they told me the heater DOES NOT have a thermostat and for proper temp. control have to constatly watch it and adjust it....what a load of crap!!!! I hate that store and I refuse to buy from them anymore...fortunately I live in a very large city and have a multitude of FS to pick from....
I have had other issues with said store as well and would love to tell the name, but that would probably step on some legal toes.... |

| I am pretty darn sure that my favorite LFS would like to post some annoying stories about me! I am lucky enough to live in a good spot in which the local "mom and pop" stores are still around, but close enough to the chain stores to save a few bucks on food and other non-living supplies.
I basically go to my favorite store at least twice a week and recently they asked me for some pictures of my tanks so that they can put them up in the store. There are a few people who already have some nice pictures there and so I am kind of honored that they would like to see mine. I used to go in and ask all kinds of questions and got half answers to most by the employees. Like I am sure everyone else, now I know who to ask about what. I am seriously thinking about applying there part time, not because I want to work or answer questions, but just to get the employee discount! (They also get to take some pretty nice fish out of there if they arent selling!) Oh, and they banned dyed and/or tattooed fish! The first and only store that I have heard of doing this. |

I am not sure of the exact process, but I think it is similar to how we get tats. I have seen it alot on Blood Parrots and have seen "I Love you" or "will you marry me?" on the sides of some fish before. |
