| S/W reef vs. F/W plant tank? Alright people lets hear about why you favor one over another? And on the flip side what are the down side to your favorite. Ex. (cost, maint.)

| Great question!
I would think that many people could first afford the FW planted tank, but I still think that the SW reef tank is the cadillac of the aquarium world.
I am working my way up to a reef tank at the moment and getting very excited. However, when I was buying my Lionfish at the LFS about 30 minutes from my house, the 'bagging station' was right next to a 100 gallon planted tank that REALLY got me thinking hard. The tank was so green and bright and there were some really small fish, amost like neons, all over the place. It also had some glow-fish, which were really cool and about 6 clown loaches. I swear, if I didnt have a wife to answer to, I would have a FW community tank, FW planted, FW cichlid tank, my SW preditor tank, and a nice long reef tank! I might even put a TV in my living room, just so that people didnt think I was totally weird! LOL |

| I would love to try my hand at a planted tank but it will have to wait until I'm done with my chiropractic/masters in sports med degree (yeah only 37 credits a trimester I'm not busy at all ). At the moment I decided that a FW (fake planted) community tank will be all I can manage cost wise and time wise. I really enjoy having an aquarium and if I'm not carefull I'll need a room dedicated to this hobby. After a stressful day of classes I love to just relax and watch them swim around!

| Amanda,
Well, when I finally have all the fish tanks and equipment I want and am finally happy and running a small zoo, you can definately come over and adjust my back when I am done with water changes! Good luck in your schooling! I am also working on my MBA and working full time and devoting too much time to the hobby to get the right amount of sleep each night! |

Jay | I guess one can consider the beauty of a Cadillac v. Lincoln v. Mercedes v. Rolls Royce. Each has their own beauty, that is why there are so many different automobiles and aquariums. Personally, I enjoy both, the SW and all its color and complexity, the FW with its ability to adapt to various regions and its simplicity.**
Right now, I am into the FW moderate planted with a variety of species from different regions. The fun of the hobby is the consistant joy of doing something and creating something beautiful to look at.
**Figure of speech, just trying to show that there is a difference, not that either one is too complex or too simple, whatever is right for the individual hobbist.

| Nice Jay,
I meant that saltwater is the EXPENSIVE tank such as Cadillacs are expensive. I would most certainly agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and nothing beats a Camaro!
I've had enough of fighting on this forum and as soon as you all realize that I am always right, we will get along just fine! :-) |
