| Re: Years in keeping fish You would need probably a 30g at least for a beginner with saltwater. You would need a power head, protein skimmer, live sand, live rock, the salt you mix with water, dechlorinate, good lighting, test kit, and lots of patience. You use the live rock as a filter for your tank, at least 1 lb. of live rock per gallon, preferably 1.5 lbs or more. You let the tank run with the live rock until your Ammonia and Nitrite go down to zero and then add a fish or two or like crabs and such. It can take up to a month before fish.
