If your petshop has sold you a sturgeon that I would be returning it and demanding my money back. You're going to be running out of tank space soon |

| Re: Pet Store Sturgeon???? I thought that was like keeping bass in your tank. What is the law about that?
Not being a prude. I was told by 1 LFS that fish from local waters can't be a tank fish but I saw bass for sale at another LFS????

| Re: Pet Store Sturgeon???? I reccomend you think about deleting this post, it is very irresponsible to reccomend that other members on this forum break the law. Laws are in place for a reason, a native fish in captivity, and then realeased back into the wild can introduce new disease, fungus, bacteria, and parasites, potentially killing an entire ecosystem of fish, as well as the native fish introducing the same into aquarium fish, causing even more problems for fellow hobbyists if those problems make it back to say.. your local LFS. -Andy.

Also, I believe you may be mistaken on the potential size of a white sturgeon.
And an article on some sturgeon as well, mentions catching an 11' 4" sturgeon weighing over 800 pounds, and 120 years old. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%3Den%26sa%3DN Quote:

Why would you want a fish that has the ability to almost certainly out live you, in which time, you would need to literally spend thousands of dollars to properly keep one, not to mention feeding a several hundred pound fish. And of course, the fines, and possible jail time for illegally keeping a native species.

| Re: Pet Store Sturgeon???? Just keep in mind that websites like liveaquaria.com are trying to sell you something so they are not and should not be considered a completely honest resource for scientific information...for example, I would probably get run out of school if I was to cite an online store within a research paper. Just like TV, you can't believe everything you see on the internet...and trust me, this is coming from someone who loves liveaquaria.com enough to travel to their outlet store and back in one day for more than 6 hours of solid driving!

For the record, I have deleted one of your previous posts since you obviously haven't taken Andyoybna's suggestion to heart...and because I won't allow anyone to promote the bending, twisting, or breaking of any law on this forum. Thanks for understanding. |
