I need a fish identified

I'm kind of n00b to aquariums and stuff. I just got this fish from my friend who moved out. And I have another gold fish. I was wondering if it would be ok to put this fish together with a gold fish in the same tank. He does have some visible teeth if that helps ya out. Your help would be much appreciated

Thats not a good idea to mix the 2. the yellow one is very aggressive and will most likelykill the goldfish. Not to mention they need totally different params all around. I won't be a lot of help but I do know that's a cichlid. But I don't know which one. Most likely will not be a good idea to put in with a gold fish. But I'll let the cichlid experts answer that for sure.

kay so weve established its a yellow lab and just to give you an idea usually goldfish are sold for feeding cichlids but yours is an african and wont eat the goldfish btu will kill it and pick it apart maybe eating half and if it does eat it it will more than likely get sick since african cichlids of that sort are herbivores and will get the malawi bloat and make em VERY sick soo id say choose which one to keep and take the other back to the LFS or anywhere just me but id keepo the Yellow Lab theyre better looking cooler and its a cichlid...where can you go wrong......other people dont answer than! haha and its prob worth 3 times asmuch as the goldfish but hey your call

i agree do not mix them, the yellow lab is a lil less agressive then other cichlids but still is, and is territorial, it could stress the goldfish and take some beatin.

As for the teeth, those are actually used for scraping algae off of rocks. You may get away with keeping them together, but most likely the yellow lab will chase the goldfish a lot, and basically take over the tank, it is doubtful that the goldfish would get killed or injured, possibly stressed to death, or won't get a chance to eat with the more aggressive/faster cichlid, and starve to death.

The other thing is, they like completely different water parameters, african cichlids prefer a high PH, 7.8-8.2, hard water, and around 78-80 degrees, goldfish prefer soft, nuetral water, 7.0ish PH, and colder water, anywhere from 60-75 degrees, and can actually survive winters under frozen ponds.
