Doesn't it over-stress your males to have them constantly staring at one another? I know a little healthy exercise/flaring is good for them, but I've read from many reliable sources that too much of it wears them out or makes them stuck in that "let's fight" pose all the time. I understand a fully flared betta is a cool sight, but I have to wonder if this is a healthy habit? Please take no offense, I am no expert nor have I kept betta for years and years.
andgm333, is that plexiglass with holes drilled in it? Very curious... | I've kept mine together for like a year now and they are doing great.
Havn't had any problems with them getting stuck lol

| Re: Your betta pics! Hey all, please take a look, I dont know what is going on, my female betta suddenly became bloated. I dont know what the problem is, shes happy and everything but this happened all in nearly 24 hours. Her scales are also protruding outwards near the bulging areas....its a little creepy. But shes still very happy.
take a look at the picture please. |

| Re: Your betta pics! Sounds like it might be dropsy. I cannot remember off the top of my head if dropsy is curable. Google some images and see if any looks like yours. |

| Re: Your betta pics! I agree with what GM is suggesting. I would remove the fish to a QT tank. As I recall it is somewhat treatable with broad spectrum antibiotics and/or increased temp with epson salts. However, the likelihood of the fish recovering from dropsy is not good due to the damage inflected before it is noticed.

| Re: Your betta pics! mikek996,
First thing welcome to the forum
There is some controversy regarding Beta's in community tanks and how good that is but IMO you can do it just fine. I have one in my tank and there are no problems. Beta's create a bit of an interesting situation in a community setting. You can never have two males (and personally I do not even try to add female betas since I am not interested in breeding them). Two male bets will be extremely aggressive with each other and fight until one or both is dead. However, with other fish you have the exact opposite problem. The otehr tank mates need to be very very peaceful fish because aggressive fish will kill the Beta. I have never seen a Beta act aggressive with a fish from a different species even when they were being attached .

| Re: Your betta pics! well here's my first Betta, just got him for my community tank but he didn't seem to enjoy the big spaces, so he's being kept within the tank, inside a breeder tank all for himself.
his name is Michelangelo
he's a little spooked from just being added to the tank, so he'll sign autographs later |
