I say a freshwater Flounder the other day and looked into its care requirements. I found most places said they require saltier water as they mature to adulthood and then a full marine environment was needed.

I read comments about the fish on various sights from people that owned a flounder and it was being kept in a freshwater environment and it was doing great. The owners had only had the fish for a few months upon their post. What happened to the fish later is unknown.

So I'm wondering if anyone has owned a flounder, for how long and in what environment?

I'd like to have one in a freshwater tank at all times of its life, but not sure if this is possible.

I have kept them tons of time they need brackish water at least they only can be fresh water for a few years any odd animal that is fresh water is usually brackish like puffers and moray eels. It needs at least 1 table spoon of salt per gallon I have also acclimated it up to full marine upon reaching adult hood sorry for the bad news but if you keep him in fresh for more than 2 yeas it will die.

How long does a Flounder usually live?

10 to 15 years.Note I am only 17 the one I had was probably 10years upon my purchases of him he was at least 5 inches.
