I've found getting them really young gets fish acclimated to each other. Exept for my Angels and Discus. My Angels were like Hells angels and beat up on them. Needless to say the wife agreed and we got the 55 for them.

Are there any oscars that don't get huge. I like the fish but Man they get big.

Ya i decided to stay away from the hole oscar and large fish thing. I am going to purchase 125 gallon and make it my new community tank. I have a 75 and i want more. Thanks for the opinions.

twood there is no natural oscars that dont get big and i say natural because im sure somewhere a breeder has found a way to dwarf them somehow or something sick like that

all i have is cichlids and i have plecos in each of my tanks and ive never lost a pleco ever .....wait almost lost one to my red devil but we got thepleco out of the tank b4 it was totally lost soo we keep no cleaner in with teh devil now but yes i have an Oscar and a few jacks and tehy dotn touch the plecos sooo id have to agree if there isnt enuf roomany fish will make the room

Hey twood63 good point. Getting them young and allowing them to grow up togehter does help to acclimitate them.

BUT - you still need to do your homework re compatability. In many species of cichlids, they are ok when young, but their agression comes out as they mature (when establishing a territory for themselves in the tank) and especially when they are getting ready to breed.
