| Arowana and Redtail Catfish Hello,
I was thinking about starting fresh with some new fish and i want to get a silver arowana and a redtail catfish, along with a needel nose gar, im going to get all of them in the baby stage.... so i got rocks in my tank with fake plants, its an 82 gallon tank 3 ft long high and real deep... so i was wondering if i need any live plants, what should i feed them? should i take the rocks out and leave open space ( rocks preety much go almost halfway up the tank and the full width)... what are there feeding habits? and any information you can give me to help me out housing these fish!!!!
Thanks, Hope to hear from all of you |

| Re: Arowana and Redtail Catfish you would only be able to keep them for a year they both grow to 3 feet long and yes I am sure of that so I would say you couldn't of picked a worse pair unless you wanted a tiger shovel nose cat that would be worse but you might want to rethink your decision a minimum tank for the fish would be a 200 gallon. The gar also gets big but it would do fine in the tank.

| Re: Arowana and Redtail Catfish Agree with TBX. These are monster fish you have chosen and will grow BIG.
You'll need a much larger tank and excellent filtration if you want to avoid problems in the future. |

| I agree completely...these fish may be one of the reasons why the word 'ginormous' finally made it into the dictionary! One of my LFS has the same fish as you are thinking about, as well as a couple other 'monsters', in a 900 gallon tank; which is ginormous IMHO and along the lines of what you might need. |
