| Setting up 55 gal. tank this weekend... Wish me luck everybody. I went out today and got the rest of my decor, heater (Hydor Theo 300 watt), filter (Marineland Emperor 400), air pump (Tetra Whisper 60), and too many decorations and plants to list (artificial plants to get me started).
I'll try to post some pics once I get everything in there.

Thanks for the input on the filter, I'm hoping for the best.
I also bought a bottle of stuff that is supposed to help generate the beneficial bacteria while I am cycling the tank. We'll see how it works soon.

| Is this a scientific analysis Kuli Loach? I agree that some of these products may work and some may not, however, I couldn't say that refrigeration alone is the determining factor in this case. However, if you have emperical proof of this statement, please share!
In any case, I would just say that these products are probably not something to rely on exclusively as far as cycling your new tank Bo Knows. I would also add that once you add them, if they are truly viable bacteria cultures, you would then need to 'feed' that bacteria with an ammonia source. |

OK, the 'stuff' that I got is Top Fin Bacteria Supplement. The instructions say "use when setting up new aquariums, adding fish, during routine water changes and after medicating." The bottle also says, "Helps to stabilize your aquatic environment; introduces beneficial bacteria; reduces ammonia spikes; aids in nitrogen cycle to reduce 'new tank syndrome' ".
I figure it is worth a shot. Since I am cycling with no fish I don't really have to worry about harming anything by giving this stuff a try.

| Re: Setting up 55 gal. tank this weekend... Got everything set up, so my cycling process is basically underway. I have no timetable and am not trying to rush things but hopefully I can get some fish in the next 2-3 weeks.
Here's a link to my thread with pics of the tank setup: http://www.fishtankforums.com/8-fres...html#post33674
