Betta care: Food Fasting & PWC

Hi,

I'm happy to report that my male Betta, named Shimmer, is doing well. He looks healthy and acts happy. It's neat how Bettas will come to the side of the tank to greet you.

I'm planning on fasting him once a week. Would it be OK to do this on the same day as his pwc? I wouldn't think that the fasting would be stressful to the fish, but would it be so to do both on the same day?

Thanks for all your help!

Yea why? I have heard of people feeding them daily and every other day. You need to pick one and use that as a routine for him so he won't be stressed at all.

Nothing wrong with fasting your fish once a week. I do the same with all my fish (I feed then twice a day, 6 days a week).

The fasting period helps to clear the fishes digestive tracts, and also helps to maintain water quality levels.

Please keep in mind that many fish can survive extended periods without food (some for two weeks or more ....)

As an example, mouthbrooding cichlids (Africans) won't eat for 3 or 4 weeks whilst they are holding eggs ....

How would you expect them to though as there offspring are in there mouth if they did eat they would swallow the frys/eggs.
