I don't have the experience of Pappy, so you may wait and see if he comments on this but--Why not give it to a friend with a pond? If it is a comet/common goldfish, I think it should do OK in a pond. I've heard that it's not advisable to put fancy or long-finned goldfish in a pond; however, the Common, Comet, and Koi (maybe Shubunkin as well?) are supposed to do well in a pond.

BTW, I just want to commend you on your good heart. Many people wouldn't care so much for a fish. Especially a common goldfish!

We're really glad to see that you care so much about the welfare of this fish. You seem like a good person.

Thank you to Totallyfrozen! I do care a lot about this fish. I figured out, with the help of some friends, what to do with it! One friend gave me a 10g tank and filter and the other gave me a stand for it so I put my goldfish in it for a bit and then decided it needed a tank mate. This evening I added a beautiful koi fish that is the same size. I am going to watch them closely to make sure they get along which so far is going well. If they continue to tolerate each other then I will feel much better about putting it in a pond when it gets too big for the tank.

I try to always remember, things tend to work themselves out! (And I have great friends and this awesome fish forum!)
