| Re: Show off your cichlid Pics! Very nice looking fish, all of them. I also have some kenyi, they were all a pretty blue like that at first, then two of the three turned into yellow males LOL. I dont find they are anymore aggressive than most of my other mbuna such as red zebra etc. do you? I had heard how mean they were, but in fairness they just got to be breeding size so maybe that will change and they will morph into little monsters LOL.

| Re: Show off your cichlid Pics! I find them pretty aggressive. Probably my most aggressive fish that I keep, although that doesn't say much! The males are quite a bit bolder, and I haven't been able to keep more than one per tank. Right now I just have a pair so they seem alright. Upgrading to a 55 so I'll be able to keep a few more in with them I am hoping so. No idea what the babies are yet because they are still too small, but I'm enjoying their bright blue coloring for now
My friend Krystle keeps 4 Kenyi (2 male 2 female) with 4 Jack Dempseys, all male, in a 40 gallon tank and hers are tame as butterflies. I told her she must be drugging them, LOL but she's had them together since they were babies, maybe that made the difference..Who knows.

| Re: Show off your cichlid Pics! Like many highly aggressive fish, when placed in larger tanks they tend to be milder in disposition.... Kenyi housed in 75g tanks act much milder than ones in a 55g.... I would still place them above a red zebra though.... |

| Re: Show off your cichlid Pics! Yes, i would place mine slightly above a red zebra also. Mostly the two males, the female seems equal to the redzebra as far as aggression goes. I noticed the males became more aggressive as is common, when they reached maturity.
The babies in the pic have the female coloring but that does not mean anything at this point, they can change at anytime into the male colors as they mature. i noticed my beta (less dominant) has turned completly yellow now but has kept his bars (they are a dark brown), where the alpha has gone pure yellow with no dark stripes present anywhere. They look very different from each other. Its interesting.

| That is a good point....they can change at any time. To my great frustration, I am just now starting to see that I actually have quite a few male P. Saulosi instead of just the two which changed colors within weeks of bringing them home. It is a good example of how a less dominant fish will try to remain incognito to avoid the wrath of the more dominant fish. All of this time I was thinking that at least one of the fish I bought thinking it was P. Saulosi was actually a yellow lab, but now that fish looks very similar to a bumble bee cichlid so I am pretty sure that it isn't a lab, but a male Saulosi. |

| Re: Show off your cichlid Pics! Less dominant male cichlids, especially but not limeted to mbuna, will often take on what is called pseudo female coloring. It is a technique to stave off aggression from the alpha male and they will sometimes go so far as to engage in false mating activity with the alpha male to prolong the charade.
