I honestly owe all of you here in the forum. I've read the articles looked at all the do's and dont's and have gotten some excellent maintenance advice.

Thanks to all for the help making my experience a very positive one this time around in keeping tropical fish. You have given me some hope that by this time next year I'll have a 55 of saltwater.

And I'm sure I'll be relying on all the expertise the forum has developed with all of you.

You will probably have one up sooner than that for sure. I actually have had an easier time with keeping salt water than when I kept discus's and seeing how good you are at that it would be nothing to you.

I thank you for the vote of confidence. I have had a question on how people say the discus are the king of the fresh water aquarium though. I have had more issues with my africans and angels than with the Discus, I have never had a fish be as happy to see me come home from work as I have with these. I come in the front door and they almost jump out of the water into my hands. I climb the stairs open the hood and there they all are. They actually rub up against my hand like they do themselves. The whole family loves them now. The only difference in maintenance with them is the more frquent water changes. I do 70 to 80% once a week now and watch my nitrite and nitrate levels close.

Why don't you try a little nano cube despite what people say they are fairly easy to keep in check.

thanks , its lots of work to get the decorations just right in a tank that big. THose were nice fish tbx, i used to love to keep south american cichlids. That was all i ever kept for 20 years. I was especially partial to oscars. Cant keep them anymore at my new house. They do so poorly with my naturally hard well water at our house we bought 4 years ago . I have a ph of 8 out of the tap and its hard too. But if i had not had that bad luck with the water and south americans i would not have found the africans that i really am starting to like . They are so colorful and fun. Plus i always liked that cichlids were a rather tough fish, kind of bully's and these are definetly tough fish. I have pink fish, orange , electric yellow, blue, purple with yellow fins, yellow with blue head , hot pink and ones with thick white/blue and black stripes. I never had that much color in my south americans in one tank. I always liked lots of fish in a tank, but cichlids needed lots of space and few tank mates , but the africans thrive in a crowded tank.
