Dear All,
I have a 300+ gallon saltwater system with two in-line pumps that I have been running for about 6 years with two Rainbow pumps that ran very quietly. A little over a year ago, one died and when I went to replace it, I found out that Rainbow had a new equivalent pump design, the Quiet One 5000. So, I replumbed and installed one to replace it.
It turned out that the new pump was not as quiet. It made a new sound that the still operating old does not make, sort of a humming sound that carries through the room. After troubleshooting everything, all was in order, but the sound seemed to be due to a vibration that the other pump does not make. I was told it was the design change. I tried various vibration dampening suggestions without luck, so I learned to live with it.
Now, the new pump cracked at the outflow fitting. I think it was the result of the vibration, but don't know for sure.
I would appreciate any comments on water pumps regarding reliability, durability, and especially, vibration and noise. Which pumps really are the quietest? I need to replace the cracked Quiet One 5000, but am not sure what direction to go.
Thanks for any input.
