| I have never personally spawned bettas, but I found this step by step with pictures. It is helpful to know exactly what they should be doing, and to know if they have went through all the stages. http://www.bettatalk.com/how_bettas_spawn.htm |

| I have a Betta but I've never attempted to spawn them. But just wanted to say that that's a really good site. I have a Betta myself, so it's very helpful. |

| I have never tried to breed them either, but I found it quite fascinating. I may try it in the future, maybe I will put an old tank to use with a pair. |

| Are you leaving both the female and male in the tank. I do believe once the male has done his work that you need to remove him from the tank. From my understanding is that the male and other fish will eat the spawn. Or bother the eggs and prevent them from hatching.
I also know it takes up to a few days for anything to happen as well. I believe within 72 hours. |

| Yea, according to that article I read, you shouldn't put her in until he is ready. It is always a good idea to separate them after breeding, but I think both sexes will eat the eggs. |

| A 2 gal bowl is not right for the job, you really need atleast a 10 gal tank. Half filled with water. Temp is important and keep the male and female seperated until he gets a good bubble nest built. It is a good idea to put something for him to build it under, like a styro foam cup. Release the female and if they are ready they will spawn under the nest. Make sure to keep an eye on them as if they don't spawn they may fight. Some fighting may be normal even when they spawn. If they do it, then remove the FEMALE. The male must stay as it is his job to take care of the fry. You need to be prepaired to feed them. So if you haven't started a culture for food, don't make babies. It is not uncommon for two fish not to spawn. Are they breeding stock? Are they pet store Bettas? |
