 Ammonia Problem Figured Out!!!
free mn_fuzkaSo I was having a problem with my ammonia levels, I could not get them down! I finally figured out what was causing it!!! The Under Gravel Filters I had in 2 of my tanks! I decided to try changing from a HOB and UGF to a sponge filter and a HOB in my 20g. to see if that changed anything. When I pulled up my UGF the DECAYING CRAP that was under there was UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I emediatly sucked out all the water except an inch or so above the gravel and filled as quick as I could. Since I did this my ammonia level is down to .5ppm in my 20g and a couple more daily water changes of 10-15% and it should be under control!
And I always clean my rocks thoroughly but it is my fry tank so the small pieces of food I was feeding apparently were getting sucked down throught the gravel !!!! I WILL NEVER use a UGF again or recomend them for anyone! My HOB and Sponge filter are doing an amazing job of keeping my tanks clean! I can watch particles floting around and get sucked to 1 or the other! My water is now a clearer and my fry seem to doing so much better!
Finally!!!!!! Oh and my 30g is oppm in Ammonia and has been for a while and I just did a few water circulations with that one. but it did not have a UGF. And my 10g I switched over a couple of days after I did my 20g. it is doing much better to but it is about 1ppm.... It was much worse than my 20g and is taking longer to right itself, but it is showing a good change!
