Ive got another set of fry on my hands... heres a pic of them just after hatching today. so the eggs total age are 5 days right now since they were laid. both the male and female gaurd them all day and night. they dont even let the loached on the right side of the tank anymore lol. anyways i dont remove the male or female from the tank at any point. im a firm beliver in the fish teaching the fry parental care and thus making the fry better parents when they get old enough to breed. i will post more pics as they grow older, and get eyes/mouths, and become free swimmers. also any1 in the utah area, once these little guys get 1/2 inch i will be giving them away free. so if you want one or many just shoot me a pm.

Congrats!! What kind of fish are those? I'm guessing some sort of cichlid??

I would say kill them or give them away the never stop breeding I have a pond full of them and it keeps getting fuller

you should do what i do then, breed them give them to friends who want them and then trade the rest to the fish store for dry foods and chems. im a cheap bastard and hate paying for anything so this is a way to keep costs down. because yea they breed like every 2 months for me.

well heres a pic of them from yesterday, they have been in the same tank and with both parents the whole time. the larger of the babies are about 1in some smaller some slightly bigger. theres aprox 40 or so in there. Also in the tank are about 5 loaches and 1 catfish, handfull of tetras.

That's a "problem" with Convicts. They are fiercely protective parents who breed faster than rabbits.

At least with the mouthbrooding Cichlids, once the Moms finally can't hold any longer and have to spit into the main tank (if you don't remove them), 99% of the newly spat fry get gobbled up by the other tank inhabitants and only rarely do you have a survivor who manages to squeeze into a small hiding spot in the substrate.

I couldn't stand the thought of that happening so I always removed the moms and stripped the fry and I had like 50+ fry at all times in 2 grow-out tanks and I was sick of dealing with it, so I traded in all my breeding groups and went with my all male tank listed below in my sig.
