I have a 10 gallon tank laying around, and would like to put it to use. Is there any problem for putting just one Red Cap Oranda in a 10 gallon tank? Would the tank be big enough for just one? Would it hurt to have him alone? It would just be one fish, a plant, and something to swim through; would this work? I don't want the small environment to be bad for the fish, any help would be appreciated. I had an Oranda and a pleco years ago in a 50 gallon tank, and he was quite happy in there. I even taught him to hand feed, which was awesome. He seemed fine, but that was a much bigger environment for him than the new one would get.

A single Oranda in a 10-gallon tank seems fairly reasonable. I would keep a close eye on it, though. If the fish seems to be outgrowing the tank--and you'll know by the behavior of the fish and the condition of the water--then you should consider upgrading to a larger tank.
