You will be fine so long as you give the tank a good cleaning beforehand. Talk with the person selling it though. Ask him the following questions:
- What did the aquarium have in it? Fish, Reptiles? Freshwater, Saltwater?
- Have you ever dosed any medications or chemicals in the tank before?
- Are you the only person who has ever owned the tank?
- Do you know what the manufacturer is? All-Glass, Oceanic, Perfecto?
- If the tank is currently empty, how long has it been that way?
Knowing the answers to these questions can help you better prepare for it, know how much to clean it, and know which parts are acceptable for use on it (in some cases).
