| Snails Sorry I tried to take a picture but my camera wont focus. I have hundreds of little snails (most are under a cm long) in my 50-gallon tank. Is there any way to get rid of them? are they doing any harm?
Thanks!

| Re: Snails I wish I had more info for you. I will try to find a picture of the snails online. They are pretty common. I see them often in pet store aquariums. |

| Re: Snails Did you recently add living plants to your tank? Snails often hide in living plants sold at LFS and certain types of snails multiply 10x faster than "rabbits".
There is something used to get rid of the snails, but I'd have to look it up. I don't know if it's a chemical or just adding in salt, turning up temperature or whatnot, but I'm guessing you got the snails from live plants. If you didn't add live plants, then ... I dunno?

| Re: Snails Yeah you got em from plants most likely, if you didn't, you have a magical fishtank that spontanious generates snails

| Re: Snails Sukai,
I agree plants were the likely source. When you get to hundreds of them, I fear BMueller777 is correct Quote: |
you have a magical fishtank that spontanious generates snails
| There are some meds such as had a snail that will kill them but IMO a mch better option is to get fish the are predators to snails such as loaches. The side effects of the meds can be a problem and the loaches will take care of it in short order

| Re: Snails hmmm
I must have a magical tank.
I have a clown loach but he cannot eat all of them. A lot have gotten too big for him to fit in his mouth. I plan on getting all new fish for my tank so if there is a chemical that I can use that would be nice.
How bad are the snails for the tank? |

| Re: Snails In general I think it is more of a nussance than doing bad things to the tank. IN large numbers they just appear less than appealing. You can try had a snail but it is a copper based med so you will always have some remants of that. This will say that the tank could never be used for example as a reef

| Re: Snails If the Loatch dosen't kill em off try a 4''-5'' Chinese Alage Eater, they snack on small things like snails

| Re: Snails snails make a lot of waste which is the only issue. If you want to get rid of them you should get gouramis or angel fish. In my tank i have the odd snails appearing once and a while(from new plants) but my gouramis and angels really love eating them off the glass. So if you don't want to add chemicals just add new fish. |

| Re: Snails really, i didnt know that, i have all three, might be why i have never seen snails. loaches were addes 2 weeks ago but no snails as long as the angels and gouramis have been in there. get a few gouramis, they are colored natrauly and are fun to watch. but you might want to think fast, because when i had snails they doubled there size in a week. just a heads up, dont want them getting to big so they dont fit in anythings mouth.
or you can have some escargot ,jk ( i personaly hate it myself )
