| Re: A new race Tank M Day 50
0ppm ammonia, 2ppm nitrite, 10ppm nitrate
That's long enough for this one. The tank was stopped today to move on to other tests. Another test will be done with Stability later once a final faster method is selected.
-------------------------
Tank O Day 24
0ppm ammonia, 5ppm nitrite, 40ppm nitrate
--------------------------------
Tank Q Day 11
.5ppm ammonia, 2ppm nitrite, 10ppm nitrate
---------------------------
Introducing Tank R
Same basic setup. New 10 gallon tank, 5 pounds of gravel, AquaTech 5-15, heater, thermometer, etc.
I'm still not getting results as fast for Bio-Spira as I did in the tank using fish so it's time to look into some of the other 3 variables not accounted for.
One is the fish themselves which may supply bacteria directly through defacation or at least fish waste may provide something that speeds the development. That'll be tested later this summer.
Another is the bio-wheel which is an amazing biological platform. It may not be possible to duplicate the results without it but that's also another test for later. The AquaTech 5-15 is basically the same filter as the Penguin mini used in the other test but instead of a wheel it has the grid insert.
For this test we're going to find out what the fish food is capable of. It should break down slowly and steadily providing an ammonia source. I selected a bottle of Tetramin Flake. The remaining 1 ounce of Bio-Spira from the 3 ounce pack was added to the tank. One pinch of flake food was added. Liquid ammonia will be used to increase the bacteria beds size once it's had time to settle down onto solid housing, replicate some and can handle the larger instant ammonia doses. Temperature is running 87 degrees. |
