What would it come out to Jay? 10-11 gallons?

Yes distilled water lacks the essential nutrients to sustain aquatic life, true, but the pH range is sufficient. Actually as I have been researching this it seems that FW fish have a much broader range of pH acceptabilities than SW.
Here are the pH ranges that I have obtained for each of Michelle's fish from Drs. Foster and Smith:
Guppies = pH range of 5.5 - 8.0 is accepted for almost any guppy.
Mollies = pH ranges from 7.0 - 8.5 depending on the species.
Swordtails = 7.0 - 8.3
Catfish = 5.8 - 7.8 depending
Platies = 7.0 - 8.2
Sharks = 6.5 - 7.5 depending
Looking at this data I would suggest her safe range for pH as between 7.0 - 7.5 depending on what exact species she has stocked, correct? And I would suggest that she try to lower it down to that range.
Now Michelle,
Jay is absolutely right when it comes to your overstocked tank being your most suspect killer. Although a tank with this many fish can successfully be kept with a sufficient filtration system, I would assume that yours is not up to par. In a tank that small you would have to change 50% of the water each day just to keep up with waste production and uneaten food.
Definately get a bigger tank, or get another tank and split them up. Overcrowding them all into one tank just adds to the stress and also plays its part.
HTH,
Aaron
