Attack of the Snails

Ok so riddle me this.... My girlfriend has a 10g FW tank.... about 4'' of fish in it... one fish that I have no idea what it is and we have a bottom feeder of some sorts.... Really tooooo busy with my SW start up to even think or help with hers..... Thats a whole other week long fight! hahaha anyways....

We had a major problem with snails ever since we got a FW crab and one was on him.... One turned into like 800 in 2 months or so.... So we ended up breaking everthing down, put the fish in a holding tank. remove everything... decor and substrate... buy a new filter, new substrate, decor....

We get everything back in and now 2 weeks later i see baby snails on the glass!!!! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!! Im furious... they take over a 10 gal tank in a month it seems like! How do I have snail eggs still if i have cleaned everything very good with no chemicals and really hot tap water???? Any suggestions would help... I dont know what to do... I dont want any snails in the tank.. they shouldnt even be able to survive with my bottom feeder clean everything before it even develops.... baffled!!!!! Thanks guys!!!!

I would just say redo everything you did before, but do it better. Wash stuff with a bleach solution, wrinse it real good and soak in heavy dose of declorinater. I would say don't put decor or anything in for a while too just so if snails do come back you can narrow down their points of origin.

You can always dose the tank with copper as long as you make sure the copper will be safe for the bottom feeder.

you can buy some stuff called Had a snail that will kill them. or buy a small clown loach or two, they love to eat snails but you will have to have some place bigger for them to live later as a 10 gallon is not big enough after they start growing.

The bottom feeder is a Chinese Algae Eater. Will he be safe from copper doses??? Thanks

In limited doses you should be fine. Th eother thing to think about is that once you treat the tank it will have some level of copper for quite a while. I would lean more toward the loaches but it is your choice. I beleive had a snail is copper based.

I should mention that copper will kill alinvertabrates including the crab that started this all.

no the crab is already gone.... RIP.... he didnt make it too long just brought the trouble with him.... I will never host inverts or crabs again, just fish only. Ill look into the copper... Thanks guys!
