| brand spankin new tank question welp, first post so i will try to be as precise as possible. My husband and i have just set up a brand new 10 gallon tank with a tetra whisper power filter, about 2 inches of blue/natural rock substrate, a shale cave-like hiding rock on the right side, 2 small arificial plants in the middle, and a castle hiding rock with two taller artificial plants on the left. The tank stays at 76 degrees constantly with the light on, its just the normal light that comes with the tank, and that about it. We were wondering what fish would be suitable for this type of tank and with our inexperience, also wondering if we need to add or take out anything. I don't have a digital camera, so i will get pics up asap. The tank has been set up and circulating for 2 days now, i want to wait a few more days, is that nessary? I will post more as more question arise...thanks and God bless |

| Good Glad you posted and asked questions before adding fish...
I made the mistake of startng my tank and adding fish first, then I ran into problems. It was a good thing I found the Forums. These people have helped me out a lot!
(My mistake cost my fish trouble and pain)
This forum is a Great place for information and help! Jay and Aaron seem to know everything and will tell us the truth when we screw up! (Thats a good thing!) If you will read the stickies and listen to their advise they will save you time, trouble and money. (Once fish are added they will be more the happier for it too)
Good luck, Later, Pop's

| Welcome to FishTankForums! Everything?
I wouldn't really go that far. Technically I'm still a newbie too. I have been in the game full-on for about a year and a half, closer to two years. I used to keep 10 gallons off and on while growing up but I was nowhere near focus on learning about them then.
In the last two years I have been doing my homework though, most of it in the last year since I migrated to SW. That's where the real challenges came in! From the start I wanted to learn it all so that I can build my own super-ecosystem, tank and all.
This past year has been time spent testing and honing the husbandry practices that I am going to need when I get to the point where I am dropping big $$ on my show-tank. I also hope to get into the 'biz some day.
I have asked just about every question that you will several times before and I am glad to share what I've learned with you, but believe me when I say I am no expert. (even they don't know everything. theres too much of it to remember!)
But I'll help or point you in the right direction for sure.

| I would probably only get a few fish and not 5 or 7 maybe 2. I am not saying they won't live especially if you water levels are perfect. Still seems like a good idea to add only a few and see what happens. I know this from making this mistake.
Good Luck
