Tank and Fish numbers?

20 Gal. Cycled Tank. Live Plants. I currantly Have:
1-Comet Gold fish (small)
1-Clown Loach (small)

I would like to add:
2-Tiger Barb (small)
6-Neon Tetras
6-Cardinal Tetras
2-Pentazona Barbs

Does this sound reasonable? Thanks for any info, Pop's

ya seems ok i have got 6 fish in a 10 gal and they seem to be happy

The tiger barbs are probably not compatible due to aggression.

Pentazona Barbs really need to be in the 6 up numbers, are very shy and need a heavily planted tank or one with subdued light and hiding places to be happy.

The comet is going to get big fast.

Google is a great tool for checking on fish needs and requirements

With a 20 gal. you should be alright with numbers, just doublecheck swimming level (top of tank, middle, and bottom), along with compatabuility, there are some types of fish that just generally dont get along with eachother. The common rule of thumb is 1" of total adult fish leingth for every 1 gal. of water. 20 gallons = 20" of adult fish.

Ok, thanks for help and info... did the "Google" and looked at some cool charts.

I have decided 1-20 Gallon will be for 2-Goldfish

and a bottom feeder only.

My New (just cycled 20 Gallon) I will go with:
8-Neon Tetras
8-Cardinal Tetras
1-Clown Loach (small)
adding some more plants and hopefully will come home with a few snails!

I think that will make a nice Tropical tank for me and My Grandaughter!
Please advise if I have missed something or need to add anything else, Thanks again for everyones Help.
I am getting addicted to this thing already

PS. Jay... you were right (the lime rock did raise PH in a bucket of water so I will not add to my tank) Thanks for the warning.

Live Plants are always a great addition, but require some special care if you are going to keep them alive, thriving, and algae free.

Let us know what you are thinking and we can provide some guidance for success.

I have been reading much of your info to others about plants. It looks as though a well planted tank can require just as much if not more consideration and study as a Tropical Fish set-up. For that reason (I am not ready for it) I am just placing a few mixed plants I find at the local Pet Shop ( I do not like plastic so I buy "Live")

I will continue to read all your post and learn more about the right way to develop a "Planted" tank. If you can offer a few pointer on simple ways to help keep a few basic plants healthy I will be glad to learn. Later Pop's
