Angelfish vs cucumber

I came home today after school and went into my room to feed my fish. but this morning before i left for school i tossed some cucomber pieces in for the plecos not knowing if they like brown algea.

apparently they do because the algea had been massacred and is about 20% less. but the angelfish were eating the cucumber pieces. Is this good or bad for them that they are eating the cucumber?

dont think it could hurt. i cant feed my pleco atall, my fish pickup cucumber and zuccini and eat it. i just redid some rocks and made a small cave for him that no fish can get into so i have to put stuff under that.

Thanks, theres plenty of algea in my tank to tide them over untill i can get some algea wafers, just in case i got the cucumber but i didnt want the other fish geting sick off it then it spreads to the rest of the fish.

There is no problem with feeding any fish cucumber from time to time, as far as I know of anyways. The only thing I could think of being a problem if you fed a complete carnivore only veggies, they might not process it as well as meaty items, just like feeding only herbivores too much brine or blood worms would not be the best. I had a complete livebearer tank at one time, with one pleco and fed lots of cucumber without any problems. Make sure you 'blanche' it really quick though to take off anything that might have been sprayed on it at the store. Some grocery stores use a preservative spray to keep things looking fresh and green, so you can get that off by throwing it in some boiling water and then right into cold water so that it doesnt cook. You can take off the skin, but then it doesnt stay together for long in the tank. I also always took mine out the same day so it didnt get all soggy and just become more detrius in the substrate. Maybe 8 to 10 hours was the max I would keep it in there.
