Goldfish Question

My goldfish have about doubled their size in a year. I have one (a comet)that keeps sucking on the rocks in the bottom of the tank. It wasn't a problem until recently, because now the rocks get stuck in his mouth. Most of the time he is able to get it out after about 40 seconds, but sometimes I have to pick him up and pull it out. What do you suggest to prevent him from doing this? I thought about changing to a river rock, since it is bigger, but I am not sure how a gravel change will affect the water.

sry to here that about your fish, but to change your rocks the tank would have to cycle again, just keep a eye on the amonia levels, do water changes every 3 -4 days to keep it down, gl with that

Should I go with sand or a larger river type rock? Not sure what is best for goldfish.

You should be able to find a smaller grain gravel that you can just place on top of your current substrate - that or just place the new larger river rocks on top - so that he cannot get to the trouble sized gravel, and so you preserve the bacterial cultures present. Kill two birds with one stone.
