| Hey Joe...No Problem
I think what you are seeing is stress, your fish have been through a lot.
Tiger barbs do not belong in a community tank, and you probably did not let them acclimate to the water conditions long enough before you added them to the tank (osmotic shock).
As you do your water changes and bring the tank water back to "normal" the fish should improve. Don't do it all at once, 25% every few days will work.
Regards,
Jay |

I think I have a hand on all this.
The Barbs were my son's fish. I told him they wouldn't do well with the Cichlids, but his tank was a mess so we gave it a try.
Sunday, before I watch football, I am going to start the water changes.
You gave me a ton of great info here. This, along with many other areas of this forum is sure to make a good source of info for me and a lot of other people!

Jay | Jay,
All of a sudden spots re-appeared on my fish. Not quite the same as Ich spots. These are larger looking and only on the fins.
Maybe it is Ich again?
Questions:
A: Do I switch to Quick Cure or will that destroy my bacteria growth?
B: CAN these poor fish withstand another salt bath?
I know I have to be careful how much salt I put in because I only did 2 25% changes, so I guess I half the amount of a normal salt bath?
1/2 teaspoon per gallon?

| Joe..
Can you take a picture and upload, that would be really helpful and would limit the guess work going on.

Jay | Jay,
I tried to take a digital photo, but it won't come out clear enough to show spots. VERY blurry. Barely can make out that it is a fish!
All I can say is the spots on the bodies that looked like sprinkled salt are gone and the fish are not scratching.
They now have larger grayish spots only on their botton fins about the size of a pin head. They are not cottony looking like fungus and they are not raised. I have never seen this before. I feel like hitting them again with salt and then an antibiotic.
If I lose them, I'll start over and I will need help doing that too...
Sorry for all this!
Your thought?

I got the fish to stay still and got a decent picture.
I thinks it is egg spots and I feel like a fool :-)

| Hi all!
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I have been a bit busy with these fish again!
I am seeing some changes in the numbers when I tested my water today.
Ammonia is 0, Nitrites are 0, but the PH has dropped a bit more to about 6 or 6.4, and the Nitrates seeme to have spiked up to 20 or 40, hard to tell with color cards. Water also appears to have a slight "goldish" tinge to it?
I am concerned.
I haven't made any changes in the way I do things except I have been using the light a lot more to help plant growth.
Also, the water test was done right after a water change, but I never had problems before doing it that way.
What could be going on???

| Hi Joe
I'm going to start a new thread with this post. Look for it in the freshwater forum.
This thread is getting long and we are really changing the original intent.
