Three questions...

1. I think my tank is cycled...my nitrites are 0, my ammonia is 0, and my nitrates are at 20-30 ppm. Is it cycled...it's been less than 2 weeks but my ammonia and nitrites spiked about 5 days ago. Now they are nill...

2. Replacing the filter...I have a simple filter with the spongy cartridge with the carbon inside...should I change the whole thing or just the rocks...will this upset my water levels?

3. Can I add windex to the water to make it seem more blue and tropical....

Just Kidding about number 3 of course!

Oh my, gotta love an addict with a groovey sense of humor!!! First, let me say welcome to FTF. We are pleased you have joined. we enjoy the humor. You have come to the right place for fun, friends and fins. We have loads of knowledgeable people swimming around that are always willing to help.

I would say your tank has cycled if your readings are accurate. I would recommend that you do a water change of about 15-20%, save the water long enough to rinse the sponge out in the used tank water and then replace the carbon with new carbon. This should not upset your water levels/parameters. In the future when asking questions it might help us help you if we have all readings such as specific gravity, temp, added to the other information you have already mentioned. As far as your last question, nah...just use one of those tidy bowl thingy's...makes it a really nice blue color! (NOT REALLY) ***All newbies, that is a JOKE.

Thought I better add that just in case. I had visions of some child thinking he was helping out Dad's tank......
