| Re: Oh No Judge, I had a large hollow log in my 55 gal Synodontis Angelicus (upside down catfish) breeding tank. The log was taken from salt water (Long Island Sound) and I was assured by pet stores and other breeders that the salt water would have killed any fresh water undesirables living within. I washed it well with fresh water and did not add any salt to my tank for quite a while afterward but I'm thinking that a salt water bath would do the same thing for you. It did not effect my catfish or the fry that followed. Discus prefer a little extra salt anyway. That hollow log only lasted a couple years in fresh water before falling completely apart but I did get three (small) fry from my mated pair of cats inside of it. I immagine boiling would work too but I'm thinking if it has been totally sun dried you'll need to do nothing except soak it again to get it to sink. |
