strange sunburst platy


ok so i got a few sunburst platys last week for my community tank and when i bought them one had a black tail i put them in the tank in the am when i returned frrom work in the pm all the platys were orange and yellow{normal to me} now a week later on has a black tail black fins and black spots on its head anyone ever deal with this or know whats going on thanks a lot guys ps he wont school with the others and is staying in one of my sword plants any ideas

i have a pineapple sword but this is definately a platy it came from a platy tank w/ all other sunbursts its the same as all the others as of yesterday no its got the black on it

Just wondering I have some lfs around here that cant tell the difference and put them in the same tanks. Of course they know what the males swordtails look like.

the guy who i deal with now is around 70 hes had this shop for 35 yrs i put a lot of faith in him but he might have slipped up why do swordtails get black tails and fins w/ spots on them????????

They come in multiple colors as do platties, usually because of cross breeding. If the guy has been in buisness that long then he knows the difference. I am talking more of the buisnesses that hire younger employess that are just starting at a fish store because it is cooler than Micky D's. Which are several in my area.

yea this fish was all orange and yellow 2 days ago now he has the black all over and is very solitary he hangs in one of my sword plants all day
