| Fish Losing Color My fish seem to lose their color sometimes, and then later sometimes hours, sometimes days it brightens back up. Why is this? Stress? How can I fix this, and is it healthy? Thanks.

| Hey Andy,
There are a number of reasons why a fish would lose its color...
Stress from Water Conditions, being hassled by other fish, low light will sometimes trigger it as well as high light. You need to observe what is going on in the tank prior to the loss of color and see if you learn anything.
Stress for water conditions or illness..Let's review your water parameters and any observations of odd behavior.
Let us hear from you,
Regards,
Jay |

| My parameters are as follows:
Temp.- 80
pH- 6.8
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 15
Ammonia- 0
The fish do hassel each other a lot, but they all seem to chase each other equally. The only thing is the Bleeding heart is about 2 inches making him twica as big as the others, so he may be part of the problem. I see him bullying sometimes, but the little guys usually fight back.

| there are flake foods you can buy that will enhance the natural color of the fish but it sounds like it may be stress or other conditions that is affecting the quality of color from your fish. like jay said there are many reasons why this will happen. Have the fish gained the color back but then it faded again or is it staying the same fadded color ?

| It changes, sometimes they fade, then they gain it back, and so on. Sometimes the gain or lose it quickly, and somtimes it takes a while, like days.
