55 Gallon "In the beginning"

Tadah. It's finally here and boy does it need some work. I am posting some first pictures before I do anything to it. Have decided to paint the stand. The room it's going in is very rustic and I thought if I could find an old ceramic barn I am going to do a different kinda theme in order to keep with the rustic theme. Some people like windmills and castles...I like rustic old wood, barns, farm implements so I am working out how to incorporate this and still use my "shadowbox" idea posted in the DIY section. Anyway, I think this is going to be fun and creative.

Re: 55 Gallon "In the beginning"

yea, it looks a tad rough the stand looks like the one I got when I got my old 55, had a heck of a time with it. Grandkids were already filling mine when I got home, so it was to late to work on the stand, so I do a little sanding at a time and run the vaccum at the same time. Im looking forward to seeing your progress.

Congratulations on the new "75." Looks as if it's going to be a fun project.

Good luck on the ceramic barn. With any luck perhaps you'll find a ceramic owl and ceramic cow!

Best of luck "in the beginning" and "right up to the end."

Bob

Re: 55 Gallon "In the beginning"

I forgot all about the owl and cow (hay, that rhymes). Someone in our neighborhood had an owl, and you never knew whos porch it would show up on, it was all over the neighhood for years.

Judge, if you dont like the owl and cow idea, how about making your own at a local ceramic place? I would think they would be aquarium safe, Im not sure.

Re: 55 Gallon "In the beginning"

I am open to all suggestions. I am going to stay with a rustic theme...who knows. I am starting with the stand first..The color is going to match one of the colors in the bedroom a medium/light tan but that's all I've decided on. I am even thinking of something a little different with the substrate. Like dark colored sand and some large pieces of slate to cover most of it. I would not want to lay slate directly on glass for obvious reasons but I thought with a sand bottom for cushion then I could layer lots of slate and have some plants coming out from in between the rocks..thoughts??
