Re: Help with bubbles at top of tank!

GH, KH and PH is something your going to have to live with, IMO, because once you try to change it, it becomes an on going thing, fish will adjust.

Just a thought, but is the tubing new? or been near soap? I cant figure out why you have so many bubbles. Under Water Filter produces no bubbles, unless....oh heres an idea. Try turning off the tank for an hour and see what happens to the bubbles. If they are gone then its an air thing, if not..... soap? surfactant of some sort? An hour might be too long with a little tank, so keep an eye on them as you watch what the bubbles do.

Im no expert, just throwing out more ideas.

Re: Help with bubbles at top of tank!

Everything is new in the tank, but I did not use any of kind soap to clean anything off.

Anyway... thanks for all the help everyone, but I got a new 5-gallon tank that has a much better filtration system in it... so the bubbles will no long be a problem. And, yes, the old tank still has bubbles all over the top, about an inch-thick layer of bubbles, but the fish will be out of there soon and into the new tank, so it's all good.

Re: Help with bubbles at top of tank!

The sticky bubbles at the top of the tank are a mix of protein (fish slime and excretions), bacteria, and detritus. In other words, a clear message that your water quality is poor.

Others have pointed out that 2 gallons is not big enough to support your goldfish Their presence, food, and detritus are overwhelming the system. They will keep getting bigger, if they have not already been stunted by the poor water conditions, and need a bigger tank.

I see you are moving up to a 5 gallon, which is really not a big move, you will still need to do frequent water changes, and meticuluous vacuuming, to keep your water quality up.

Jay
