Fish Recommendations?

Hey Folks:

My new 60 gallon tank is almost done cycling. So far, I have the following fish: 3 silver dollars, 2 zebra danio, 2 Serpae tetra, and 2 pleco.

I am consiering slowing adding the following: 1 Bala shark (my last one died because of ICH), a green terror, 1 clown loach, and 2 African cichlids and 2 electric yellow cichlids.

Does anyone have any concerns about this combination?

Re: Fish Recommendations?

bala sharks like to be at least 3 or more to a tank...sorry to say but a 60 gal. is not big enough for 3 and 1 WILL outgrow it...the green terror is just like its name sounds and it will kill anything smaller and less aggressive. Clown loaches also like to be in groups of 3 or more and perfer a dimmer light and a sandy substrate but go well with almost any fish. the africans, terror and elec. yellows will most likely kill the danios and the tetras.

IMO. when the fish you now have reach full size your tank is going to be at full capacity or close to it. Also, IMO-if the 2 plecos are the common kind, I would get rid of one of them. They can get up to 2 feet long or bigger. Just my 2 cents.

I definitely wouldn't got with the clown loach. Like fern said, they need to be in groups (thought I would say 5 as a minimum). Also they need a tank much larger than a 60 gal. As juveniles they should be kept in nothing smaller than 48" x 18" (foot print area is much more important than total volume) due to their rapid initial growth. As they grow larger they shouldn't be kept in anything smaller than 60"x 18"ish. They aught not to be kept with ciclids due to water requirements (loaches prefer softer ,slightly acidic water as opposed to the harder, alkaline water for ciclids). If you were to forgo the ciclids, you could get some zebra, yo-yo, or polka-dot loaches. They aren't as colorful as the clowns, but they have very similar personalities.

Same goes for the bala sharks: the tank isn't big enough.

The Green Terror and the African's will want very different water chemistry. Most people who keep cichlids will keep either old world or new world because of this. Also there are so many types of African's its hard to judge whether they'd be ok or not without knowing which ones.
