| Hi Sarah,
You are getting excellent advice here. Hang in there
I want to reinforce the suggestion that you read the sticky article on Cycling the tank, so you will know what is going on and what to expect.
It sounds to me like you need to stay away from your lfs advice, and definitely no chemical additives except to detox tap water.
Regards,
Jay |

| Great to see that you are hanging in there. Remember to do purchase medicine or quick fixes, it will just make it more stressful. Keep up the good work and it will be just fine.
Did you read the stickies yet? If not, please read through them, it will help you understand what is happening in your tank. Much like a pregnancy, the tank will grow and evolve with different results at different stages. The more you understand, the better off you will be when MTS (multiple tank syndrome) strikes and you need a the 10 for quarantine, 20 for a planted aquarium, 55 for community tank with plants, 135 for saltwater, etc.

| I Think the rule of three is a good idea when talking to LFS employees. Whenever I shop at local fish stores i always ask for the specilist in the certian area of aquariums i am shopping for. |

| Red Baron, you are so right about MTS!! I read about MTS in TFH( this magizine is so helpfull) TFH is a great resource for aquarium info. I have only had a subscribtion to TFH for about 9 months and i already have enough info to for sure bypass the aquatic intallectualness of just about......... everybody at two of my three LFS!!!!!! |

| How are your fish right now have any more died since your last post ?
you will want to purchase a air pump and tubing and a air stone this will help with water circulation and some oxygen exchange.
What is the temp of you heater set at 75-80 ?
It is sad that stores don't treat fish the way they should proper cycling takes allot more than 2 days.
How does the water look (cloudy...still oily on top ?..ect )
Good luck hope your fish do well

| Hiya
the tank is now5-6 weeks old... I have 2 female guppies 2 cory catfish, and one kuhlii (SP?) loach (he eats all lil snails i had a HUGE snail problem till i got this dude and have seen a huge change with the snail population.. I only have 2 snails.. that are obviosuly too big for him to eat.).. and I do not plan to add any more fish for awhile.(at least 1 month) I've had the 1 guppy and 1 cory for over 3 weeks now, and they're doing great.
I have been getting my local LFS to check the water.. almost weekly (i dont know if that is too much or not?) This are going good... in that dept.. except my nitrates and nitrites.. are a bit high.. But water changes should help that... but they can't be that bad, because the fish are active and being normal |

| The temp usually stays been 78-80.. would an airpump/tubeing/airstone make a big diff in the tank? The water is clear now.. no oily film , and the bubbles around the tank are gone.. I just did a water change and that problem disappeared. |

| No the air stone won't make a huge difference but it will help a little...I would recommended however that you buy your own test kit and learn to test your water just so that you can be sure that you are getting correct readings...ask the store that tests your water how they are doing it ( strips or in test tubes )

| Dont use strips they are too inacurate, liquid tests are very good as well as some powder tests. |
