That said use what works. 5 drops per 10 gal is okay. You should be able to see it on the tests which is the important point

The initial version of this post included an inappropriate admonision to orb regarding hijacking the thread. I did not ever intend this to be as harsh as it appeared (hence the smily face ) I also simply read the prior post too quickly and thought thee was an intent to add a discussion of another tank cycling. I do not beleive that was a correct read after re-reading the materal so my apologies to orb and any one else offended by the remarks made in haste.

When I cycled my 29; i used feeder goldfish. They love to eat(and can handle the cycle) so I overfed them. They got big fat and happy; once my levels came undercontrol(it took some weeks) I put the feeders in my 55. mY 29 was cycled and the oscars in the 55 had a great meal in the end.

It has come to my attention that the comment about hijacking was poorly recieved. I rereviewed the thread and can certainly understand that view. We all make comments on occasssion too hastily myslef included. I will add the correct comments in the post as well.

In reality we all hijacked an old thread and it would have been more appropriate to split the threread when we restarted the conversation this month answering drfong's cycleing question since it was different than the one that started the thread posed by cyberloach72. When I quickly read orb's post I erroneasly considered it a new question about the cyling of another different tank and not a general question about the process being used here.

My apologies to ORB and anyone else that I may have offended.

An update. The cycle went well. I kept adding some ammonia each day and I guess it took about three weeks to get ammonia and nitrites to 0. I kept adding ammonia for about 4 days and each time it processed it quickly. I did about a 80% water change and let it settle. Checked and all level were good. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and less than 5ppm nitrates. The cycle process seemed to really work fine and I didn't have to sacrafice any fish. I went with some community fish. They seem to be doing very well. I do have a question so I guess I'll post a new thread as not to take this one OT.
Thanks for all the adice. I would recommend the fishless cycling to anyone wanting to try it.
