What size heater

I am going to set up a 55 gal standard soon, in addition to my 30, and was wondering what size heater would you recommend? Is going with a large single, centrally located one best or 2 set in the corners. I am going to get one of the electronic ones (Won pro heat IC titanium heater)

In my 46 gallon bow tank I placed 2 heaters in the tank. Both heaters are placed horizontal about 3 inches above the gravel in the center of the tank with the filter intake just above the heaters.

I have 2 100w heaters placed vertically in the back corners of my 30, but was wondering if it might be better to run a single larger htr placed like yours are.

Scott,
With two heaters they can be set at slightly different temperatures. That can be good and bad depending on what you want to accomplish. If I already had the heaters I would stick with them. I would try to get them both set about the same temperature. The one advantage to laying them horizontal is that they stay submerged with water changes. If they are exposed in a water change then you need to unplug them so they are off when exposed to air. The hard part generally is remembering to plug them back in so they heat later.

I am looking at getting new heaters. It looks like I will go with a 300 or 350W heater and place it horizontally near the bottom as you have suggested. I am not having any problems with the 2 I have now, but the concern about having the heaters set a slightly different settings is more of a concern for my larger tank.

Hi Scottinbend

IMO you are going to be fine with the 350 watt. As long as you have good circulation the the tank (which I highly recommend) one is all you need.

Yep.......going to have a Fluval 305 and undergravel with 2 powerheads (yea, I know.....undergravel is so old school, but I like them...lol)
