| Pro Heat makes one that has the control unit remotely located outside the tank with the heating element(s) fully submersable. It comes in 150W, 250W, and 350W models.
Here's a place that carries them: Aquarium Heaters and Thermometers
Thats the first hit I got over google, so shop around and see if you can find it elsewhere if you want, but this is an example of what you're looking for.
HTH,
Aaron

| I just bought a new RENA 350 watt heater. It is not digital but has two views of the calibration settings, two on off lights, is fully submersible, and hit and held dead on temp within 24 hours.
IME heaters need to be replaced more than any other equipment.

| Welcome to FishTankForums aimee, but even more so, Welcome to the addicting world of aquatics!
A heater for a tank depends on two things usually: The size of your tank, and what type of fish you keep.
For your size tank a 50W heater will work, but a 100W heater would work better and would be what I would recommend. Fully submersable heaters are generally the way to go, or at least a heater with a seperate heating element that can be submersed.
If the fish you keep are coldwater fish, such as goldfish, then you do not need a heater unless the temp gets below 50-60 degrees (can anyone confirm this? I can't remember for sure...). Tropical fish usually need a temperature of around 78 degrees, and that's when you would need to get a heater.

| i have tropicals. and i especially need one for the breeding tank. in order for my gouramis to want to breed, i READ that is has to be about 86F. and the only way to do that, is water changes. and i dont want to disturb them any more than i have to. well, yall know that i am having trouble getting them to breed. lol. but like i said in the other post i will post updates. and i found a small heater at the local store for like 11 bucks. i dont remember what the wattage is though. sorry. lol. but i will keep yall informed. |

| The general rule is about 5 watts per gallon of water. For example, I have 1- 10 gallon tank, and it requires a 50 watt heater. |
