disinfecting bucket to move water?

i've heard people say that the buckets i should use when moving the tank to my house later today should be disinfected with bleech, is that right?

is this neccesary?

could i use rubbing alcohol instead and just let it evaporate? (alcohol is much more volatile than water)

the containers i will be using will be brand new.

I'm a little confused, are you moving an established tank?
or are you filling a new tank with tap water?

In any event, if the bucket is new it should be fine. Just give it a quick rinse.

no bleach in plastic buckets... tis bad... very very bad. *shakes finger repeatedly*

Like jay said, a quick rinse in hot water will suffice for a new bucket... I wouldn't suggest using any other bucket but a new one. The 5g buckets from you local hardware store are a great aquarium tool.

yup thats what i did just rinsed them out with some water nothing else never had any problem with them...just make sure that you don't use them for anything else but Aquarium chores.

Ditto to all and especially keeping buckets for aquarium use ONLY is key to your success here. I have dozens of buckets and vessels for carrying water and fish in. For fish transport, I use either a small 3 gallon aquarium 'body' (no top or filter) or one of those styrofoam chests that can be found at Walmart. The one I bought actually came with a plastic film over the top of it to ensure it is 'food ready' and sanitary. This is also pretty good for keeping water from heating up or cooling off really quickly and has a top that is easy to poke holes into to allow air to move in and out of it.

well i got the tank moved and set up an hour ago, its pretty nice. i'd take a picture but i removed the batteries from my camera and am missing one...

only half filled now. i got a really nice deal, or atleast i think i did. just trying to take the process slowly and make sure i dont change stuff to fast.

yep, sitting about 3 feet from me. i need to get rid of some of the fish it came /w tho to move in some african cichlids.
