I have a 55g tank that has been up and running for 9 years. Right now all I have is about 5 Cory Cats. My original plan was to switch the tank to a reef but the expense is too great at this time. Anyway, I was thinking about getting a couple fancy goldfish for the tank. Can I put goldfish in the same tank as the Cories? They're as big as my thumb and about 8 or 9 years old.

Hello Grubbie and welkcome to FTF.

Unfortunately it would be a bad move to put the cories with goldfish. Goldfish are cold water fish and cories are tropical. They need entirely different enviornments as well as having different dietary needs.

Why don't you consider a tropical setup? Her is a list of a number of speciaes that would work. You might want to consider this:

Thanks for the reply. I did have (or should say) the tank is setup as a S American Biotope, with driftwood, rocks and S.A. plants. I was just looking for a change and thought 2 or 3 of the fancy looking goldfish might be cool.

Hi Grubbie. Sorry for not understanding there.

S.A. Biotype sounds great. And I suppose South American Angels and Cichlids would be the way to go.

I would suggest "Dwarf Cichlids" since the larger "Firemouths" etc. will most likely make short work of the cories.

We have tons and tons of "Cichlid" fishkeepers on this forum, and I'm sure if you start a new thread with Cichlid in the title you will get a tremendous amount of replies and excellent advice.

German blue rams look fantastic as do many apisto species. You could do angels, schools of tetras or something like that.
