| Re: Demosoni Fry 10 Gal Gro Out Video Hi Missfish, yes they are mouthbrooders and my first fry, Bonnie (mother demosoni) was in my 90 gallon show tank of mixed africans when I noticed that she was carrying her eggs. Father's name is Clyde. One day I saw one of the fry come out of her mouth and go back in. I was getting concerned for her health as they do not eat while fry or eggs are in their mouth. She seemed to be losing weight so I stripped her.( stripped: followed instructions in a article that I read, Held her under water and pried her mouth open with my finger nail and fry swam out) She was carrying 5 fry. One got knocked out of the breeder net that they were in while waiting for the grow out tank. His name is Billy the Kid and he is still living under the rocks in the 90 gal tank. I see him every day. He is the same size as the ones in the grow out tank and I am not feeding him.I think he survives on the crumbs that fall from the other fishes mouths. I put four in the grow out tank and one stopped eating and died very shortly after that. It has been 4 and 1/2 weeks since I first seen that one fry swim out of Bonnie's mouth. I am not sure how long the eggs were hatched but my estimate would be the fry are 5 weeks old and 3/4 of an inch long.
Bonnie and Clyde spawned on Friday nite and Bonnie is carrying a mouth full of eggs once again. I will wait for about 10 days and then put her in the grow out tank where she can hopefully release her fry naturally.I have read that it generaly takes 19 to 21 days from time of spawning for mouth brooders to release their fry. I highly recomend mouthbrooders if you like seeing your fish procreate. This has been a fantastic experience.
