Exclamation AquaLight Powercenter Dual Mechanical Timer

The absolute worst product I have come across in my reef keeping experience. This power strip is a great idea, controlling 3 MH fixtures on 1 timer and swapping between actinic and nightlights on the other.

The problem is they do not last more than a couple weeks! In 2 months, I am on my 5th powerstrip. It trades off, but eventually, one of the two timers will quit working, leaving the outlets on at all times, on the timer or on manual.

I am looking for a product that does the same thing, but in the meantime, I am stuck returning one about every 2 weeks.

I would recommend this only as a gift to someone you hate and wish to sabotage.

I've heard the same reviews, but I've had mine going for 10 months now and so far no problems. Crossing my fingers.

I hope you have continued good luck. I thought after the 1st one went, I was just unlucky, but they keep going...and going...and going...

Maybe 5th times a charm!

Re: AquaLight Powercenter Dual Mechanical Timer

I have both the single digital and the single manual and love both. I have had the digital for 3 years and the manual for 6 months. I always keep them away from the sump and have a piece of plexiglass in between the sump and the electrical. It could just be salt spray but sounds like you have some serious bad luck. maybe one of your devises if malfunctioning and shorting something out. Or maybe its just the doubles.

Re: AquaLight Powercenter Dual Mechanical Timer

I have the digital one aswell, more than 6 months. Knock on wood....No problems yet.

I have heard of problems with these, its just always around 1-2yrs they crap out.

I am in search of a new timer/power strip...

Sounds like you do have some bad luck indeed! Good luck!

Thanks for the review!

I have a Coralife Power Center. It's been running for about two months and I have never had any issues with it..

Re: AquaLight Powercenter Dual Mechanical Timer

I have the digital for my biocube and am very happy with it as well.

I keep the dual outside the stand, so I don't know what is causing it, but it is always the mechanics of the actual timer. The outlets always work.

If there was a digital that did the same thing as this timer, I would buy it without hesitation.

Re: AquaLight Powercenter Dual Mechanical Timer

Well, strip #5 went out tonight. MH fixtures are stuck on.

6 days. That might be the shortest run yet!

Re: AquaLight Powercenter Dual Mechanical Timer

There has got to be something in your environment that is causing the timers to die so quickly.

I've been using the dual timer strip for ~6 month now without any problems. I keep mine on the ground behind my stand.
